Vexillum
The vexillum was a flag-like object used as a navy customary by models within the Historical Roman military. The phrase vexillum is a diminutive of the Latin phrase, velum, which means a sail, which confirms the historic proof (from cash and sculpture) that vexilla had been actually "little sails" i.e. flag-like requirements. Within the vexillum the fabric was draped from a horizontal crossbar suspended from the workers; that is in contrast to most fashionable flags through which the 'hoist' of the fabric is hooked up on to the vertical workers.
